ITALY COMES TO SEATTLE!

and

Tony Sasa of Enoteca Pontevecchio

Giorgio Boeri joins us from the province of Asti in the southern area of Italy's Piedmont region, where his great grandfather Alfonso founded the family estate around 1900. Alfonso planted grapes that began the winemaking tradition his ancestors carry on to this day. In 1998, Giorgio and his brother Roberto took over management of the estate, adding more vineyards and additional varietals. The first vintage of their wines was in 2001, with a total of 4000 bottles. The estate now produces 8 different wines, starting with a Ribota Moscato d'Asti DOCG and two Piedmonte Chardonnays. Reds highlight the best of the region, with three Barbera d'Asti's, a Dolcetto, and a Monferrato Rosso. Boeri wines can now be found in 15 countries, and the next generation is poised to take over the reins, honoring the growing legacy of the Boeri family.

Also joining us will be Tony Sasa, owner of Enoteca Pontevecchio in Florence, Italy. Tony has a background in the wine and restaurant business in Chicago and Italy, and he used that experience to follow his passion and open a wine shop highlighting the perfect pairing of wine and food. His relationships with small production wineries around Italy has allowed him to fill his Enoteca with wines not found outside of the country, but he is able to ship those finds to the U.S. Tony is also partner with Seattle's Boutique Imports (who are making this event possible!). If that weren't enough to keep him busy, Tony also produces his own wine under his own labels!

Owner Kevin Downey opened the first Grazie Ristorante in 1987, focusing on a rustic style of Italian cuisine. Located in Bothell's Canyon Park area, their menu offers pasta, meat, and seafood dishes, PLUS pizzas baked in an authentic wood-fired pizza oven. The staff is treated to a trip to Italy every two years, giving them the Italian experience first-hand. They bring back that feeling of Italy to share with their customers.

A selection of Giorgio's wines will be paired with the evening's menu.
