Wine, Dine and Shine in Texas Hill Country, May 18-20, 2023
Join us along with wine enthusiasts and professionals for a three-day weekend in Fredericksburg in the heart of the Texas Hill Country wine region.

Join us on Friday, May 19th for a day of winery tours and tastings.  We will spend the day deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country wine region visiting three wineries.

We will spend the day visiting three local wineries for tours and tastings in the Texas Hill Country.  Our morning begins with our assigned groups visiting either William Chris Vineyards or Hilmy Cellars.  Our entire group will reconvene at Becker Vineyards for a special tasting and tour along with an amazing lunch.  After lunch, our respective groups we will continue on to visit the winery we didn’t get to enjoy in the morning.  Read below for a description of each experience.

Hilmy Cellars, Fredericksburg, TX

1.5 hour experience beginning at 10:00 AM or 2:30 PM

In 2008, Erik Hilmy selected a site in Fredericksburg, Texas, to pursue his passion for winemaking. The site chosen was previously farm land with heavy clay soil. His first order of business was to place a well and plumbing on the land to ensure proper irrigation, and also provide for a future tasting room.

In 2009, with the help of close friends and family, he proceeded to plant the first vineyard, now called the “Home Block” of 3,000 Sangiovese vines. Along the way family and friends have been and still are happily helping with various projects, including construction, planting, harvest, artwork, events, etc. And like all good wine, pursuing balance is key. “What I appreciate most about Texas is the generosity of people in this business. Many experienced hands have come before us, have shared their guidance, and it has already made a difference.  Making good wine is a life long challenge.  It’s never boring, and is often very humbling,” says Erik.  “There is a poetic beauty to this artisan product that brings joy to the lives of so many people.  It also appeals to the scientist in me. I find it all immensely challenging and very gratifying.”

Becker Vineyards, Stonewall, TX

1.5 hour experience beginning at 12:00 PM

Welcome to Becker Vineyards! We will share Dr. Richard and Bunny Becker's inspiration for starting a Texas Hill Country vineyard and winery. As we tour through our winery, barrel room, and underground cellar, we will taste through six, pre-selected award-winning wines. Some of our accolades are award-winning Double Golds at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Wine Enthusiast nominee for "Best Winery in America" in 2015 served 10 times at the James Beard House, and served at three White House Governor's Dinners.

William Chris Vineyards, Hye, TX

1.5 hour experience beginning at 10:00 AM or 2:30 PM

What began as an acquaintance as winemakers in the Hill Country became a collaboration between William "Bill" Blackmon and Chris Brundrett; one that's based on a shared winemaking philosophy and a vision for what the Texas wine industry is capable of. Bill and Chris agree that great wines are not made but grown in the vineyard. They also believe that wine should be inspired by the pleasure that is shared with an extended community of friends and family over a bottle. The creation of each new vintage depends greatly upon these two priorities.

Today, William Chris Vineyards continues to reach for a level of quality that represents the very best of Texas in each new vintage. It is with confidence in our process and pride in our team, community, and the special place we call home, that we inscribe each bottle of William Chris Vineyards wine with this greeting: We are pleased to share a piece of our world.
