DAL: Technology and Wine Flavors
What flavors do you most enjoy in wines?
How does knowing the flavors you most enjoy help you explore new wines and break out of your comfort zone, even if you have very little wine knowledge?
Amy Gross
, 2020 Women For WineSense Rising Star award winner and CEO of VineSleuth, tackled those exact questions when she developed VineSleuth's digital menus for wineries, retailers and restaurants, making wine selection easier and more exciting for everyone.
Although she lives just outside of Houston, a trip to the Finger Lakes wine region in New York inspired her to recruit sensory scientists at Cornell University (now heading up the Cornell Craft Beverage Institute), winemakers in the Finger Lakes to work with her, and an applied mathematician, to build a method to assess a wine's flavor profile and use that data to build a recommendation engine to guide anyone to find wines they are sure to enjoy.
Join Amy and Fox Run winemaker
Peter Bell
, who served on the initial development team at VineSleuth, at our Virtual Tasting
Tuesday, June 8 at 6 pm CT.
Not only will you taste two of Peter's wines, Kaiser Vineyard Chardonnay and Lemberger, you'll also get to experience the interactive VineSleuth menu, moving the sliders to see what other wines you might enjoy. It’s eye-opening - one guest to the Fox Run tasting room came in thinking he only enjoyed red wines. After using the VineSleuth menu, he left with a case of semi-dry Riesling!
It’s good to branch out. What will you learn?
