When someone mentions South African wine, most of us immediately think of Pinotage and its storied history. However, did you know Pinotage is not the ONLY wine made in South Africa? The country has been producing wine since 1659 and is growing as a wine region. Winemakers are producing sparkling wines, fortified wines, and still wines using grapes such as Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, and Bordeaux style red blends. Take a quick glance at Wine Enthusiast and you can find reviews of over 4,000 South African Wines! (https://www.winemag.com/region/south-africa/). Join us for our April event featuring Jen Susa, Rochester/Finger Lakes Sales Representative for Quintessential Wines, who will provide us with a greater understanding of the South African wine industry, their delicious wines, and the varietals grown there. Fun fact - the very first producer represented by Quintessential Wines was Simonsig Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Simonsig was the very first producer of Méthode Cap Classique, Kaapse Vonkel in 1971!
