FLX: Mexican Wine & Food

 Mexican Wine & Food

A Mexican wine tour in the Finger Lakes! Join us, along with Antonio Arias to explore the world of wine in Mexico. Mexico hosts almost the greatest acreage of vineyards of any of the Latin American countries, but very little of it is for wine; the great majority of Mexico’s grapes wind up either on the table or in brandy. One zone, however has begun developing a serious wine vocation: that is Baja California and specifically the Valle de Guadalupe, near Ensenada. Mexico is still an emerging wine region, with plenty of growth in it's future. We will be tasting through 5 wines while enjoying some authentic Mexican cuisine at El Rancho in Watkins Glen.

About Antonio Arias

There’s no other product that tells a story of a place, people and time like wine. Sharing these stories for other people to enjoy is what Antonio loves the most.Originally from Mexico, Antonio’s Spanish side of the family is the one to blame for his early obsession with wine. After earning a degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana, Antonio moved to Australia where he earned a master’s degree in Wine Business from the University of Adelaide. While Down Under, he worked with wineries big and small, including Pindarie and Dandelion Vineyards, in addition to starting his own wine importing company for Australian wines into Mexico. During his time in Adelaide, he fell in love with a lovely girl from the Finger Lakes (his now-wife, Meaghan). Antonio moved to America, settling in upstate New York. He earned his WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wine & Spirits while buying, selling, and leading wine education programs in the Northeast part of the country. And now he’s eager to share his passion for and knowledge of wine with guests from all over the world at Once Finger Lakes.

Women For WineSense believes that wine enhances and enriches everyday life. The organization provides its members & guests with unbiased information about the cultural heritage, social and health effects of moderate wine consumption as part of a healthy lifestyle. WWS is committed to offering educational programs and networking opportunities to wine enthusiasts and industry professionals.

The Finger Lakes Chapter formed an annual scholarship program in the fall of 2016 with the intent of providing support to an eligible chapter member for educational advancement in the field of wine education. It is awarded based on an applicant’s willingness to pursue an educational program of their own design with the goal of giving back to the chapter by sharing the knowledge obtained during that process.

The chapter enhanced our educational program offerings starting in 2019 with the Finger Lakes Chapter Educational Grant Program.
