ROC: Long Island Wines- The Women Behind The Wine

About this event

 L.I. women behind the wine

Did you know Long Island is celebrating its 50th year of winemaking? Join the Women For WineSense Rochester Chapter as we deep dive into the Long Island wine region and learn about the women rocking the wine scene. Our speaker, Kelly Burnett, will take us on a journey showcasing the passion, creativity, and dedication of the women who hold key roles at some of the well-regarded wineries on the North Fork of Long Island.

Kelly Burnett
Speaker Bio: Kelly Burnett
Kelly started her wine journey in 2009 working in several roles at a local Finger Lakes winery, before landing her career in marketing in 2016. During that time she caught the “wine bug” and her passion for learning about wine started to grow. Kelly became a member of Women For WineSense in 2018. In 2021 she earned level 2 in the Wines and Spirits Education Trust (WSET). Then continued on to pursue level 3, which she used her Women For WineSense scholarship earnings towards. In the Spring of 2022, Kelly joined the team at Buttonwood Grove Winery and Six Eighty Cellars where she is currently the Marketing and Wine Club Manager. In April 2022, Kelly took another leap and joined the Women For WineSense Rochester Chapter’s Board as their Marketing and Social Media Director. One of Kelly’s biggest accomplishments this past year was becoming a wine judge at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. In her spare time, Kelly volunteers for different events to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times. She also enjoys camping and traveling with her partner, Jeff and their two daughters, Kennedy and Reagan.

This month is charity month again! And our speaker will be Caitlin Spoleta, an IACKids Board Member.

IACKids (It’s About Caring for Kids) was started in 2012 in an effort to give back to families in the Greater Rochester New York region going through financial hardships due to their child’s severe illness. The family of Caitlin’s late nephew Nicolas was the first recipient.

While the family’s top priority is being with their child and managing their medical care, the financial burden associated with long-term hospitalization often adds an incredible amount of stress, as the families still have to manage their lives as they did prior to their child’s illness; their other children, home, monthly bills, and so much more.

The IACKids goal is to empower our community to give back to these families in need so that they can concentrate on their child’s illness and not worry about falling behind financially.
