ROC: Bordeaux: Battle of the Banks

Come join the Rochester Chapter of Women For WineSense for an exploration of Bordeaux, France.

Bruce Smoller, DipWSET student and a dedicated wine educator will be presenting “Battle of the Banks”.  He has recently joined our ranks and this will be his first presentation to the group.  He is a certified educator for both the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust and the Wine Scholar Guild and is a frequent presenter at the New York Kitchen.

You will be tasting 6 different wines, starting with bubbles and ending with a dessert wine.  In between, there will be two Right Bank and two Left Bank Bordeaux wines.  This will be a great opportunity to learn more about their differences and to experience them for yourself.  The wines will be served along with three courses with the hope of a pleasant pairing experience.

Please join us and celebrate the December holidays with one of the world’s most spectacular wine regions!

Dr Smoller
Speaker Bio: Dr Smoller

Dr. Smoller has had a passion for wine since his days living near Napa Valley. He has been seriously studying wine for the last 10 years and is currently working on WSET Level 4 (Diploma level). Along the way, he has completed the Italian Wine Scholar and French Wine Scholar programs (Wine Scholar Guild), the Spanish Wine Expert course, as well as master-level courses in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace, Loire Valley, Rhone Valley, and Champagne — all with honors.

His wine studies are not limited to Europe, however, and he has also successfully completed courses about wines in California and Oregon, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. He has been formally certified as an instructor for the WSET, as well as for the Wine Scholar Guild. He teaches several wine courses at Daemen University. In his spare time, he is a Professor at the University Rochester of School of Medicine and Dentistry.

It's Bottle Pull time! The Women For WineSense mission established in 1994 remains our mission today: to provide educational and relationship building opportunities for wine industry professionals and wine enthusiasts.

The Rochester Chapter established both an Scholarship and Educational Grant programs to support this mission at the local chapter level.

At our December 2023 event we will be conducting a bottle pull that helps fund our educational grants, scholarship or community outreach. For a small donation, you will have an opportunity to pull a bottle at this event, so be sure to bring cash or your checkbook to join in the fun
