FLX: Women in the Wine Biz

Women in the Wine Biz1

Join us as harvest comes to an end to chat with an amazing panel of Women in the Wine Biz! From winery owner & operator, winemaker & wine sales representative, this crew is sure to share some incredible stories & insight. Wet your taste buds with wines from Anthony Road Wine Company, Barnstormer Winery & selections from T. Edward Wines paired with some delicious cuisine from our gracious host, Karen Gilman, owner of Dano's.

We'll see you on the east side of Seneca Lake a week early this month, Monday, November 13th,  to kick start
those Thanksgiving festivities. While we won't be serving turkey, there'll be plenty of wine & thanks to go around! Don't forget to register by Thursday, November 9th at midnight - or sooner - as seating is limited for this event.

Owners & Operators

Women of Anthony Road

Looking back over their history in the vineyards and at the winery, Ann and her daughters recall several hurdles that tried to stand in Ann’s way. In a male-dominated industry, she had to work twice as hard to prove herself, all while raising 4 children, managing vineyards, and putting dinner on the table at the end of every day. Ann took on hand-selling their wine to local stores, finding accounts on her own with only a map as her guide. She didn’t have a sales background, but she knew the product, was passionate about it, and knew exactly where her grapes came from – because she planted them and tended to them herself. After growing up on the farm, eventually the children ventured away – Sarah, now Business Manager, studied International Relations at Syracuse, moved to California for a while, went back to school in Boston for her master’s degree, and worked as a dietitian before working at the winery full-time. Maeve knew she wanted to be a nurse in Middle School and so she did! After 20+ years in the medical field, she has switched careers and is now an integral part of both Martini Vineyards and Anthony Road. She helps us all get things done and does so with a smile! Elizabeth, the youngest, received a bachelor’s from Nazareth College, and a Masters’ degree from UC Davis – no not in viticulture, but in Agronomy. She is currently the Tasting Room Manager and tends to the garden.

Taylor Stember
Head Winemaker, Barnstormer Winery

Taylor graduated from UC Davis in 2018 with a degree in Viticulture and Enology. With mostly vineyard experience at the time, she decided to work a wine making harvest in Napa, California to balance out her skill set and see if the other side of the industry was something she could be excited about. She quickly fell in love with the teamwork and fast pace of the winery during harvest. Following the harvest season, Taylor started traveling and working across the Americas, Europe, and the Southern Hemisphere. She moved to the Finger Lakes in 2020 to work as a harvest cellar hand at Red Newt Cellars, and shortly after harvest took a full time job at Anthony Road Wine Co. as the assistant winemaker for the 2021 year. The Finger Lakes had their grasp on Taylor at this point, and she is now the Winemaker at Barnstormer Winery with no plans of going anywhere.
