A Journey through France
France is always a favorite region to explore and continues to be one of the largest wine producing regions. The history of French wine goes back at least 2,600 years dating to the founding of Massalia (Marseilles) in the 6th century BC by Phocaeans. It’s likely viticulture existed even earlier than this.
The Romans did much to spread viticulture across the land they knew as Gaul, encouraging vines be planted in areas that would become the well-known wine regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace, Champagne, Languedoc, Loire Valley and the Rhone.
Prior to the French Revolution, the Catholic Church was one of France's largest vineyard owners, wielding considerable influence in regions such as Champagne and Burgundy where the concept of terroir first took root. The commercial interests of the lucrative English market and Dutch traders also influenced the French wine industry.
Join us Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30 PM at a house in Plano as we take a journey through France to learn about multiple regions and their wines. Address will be provided to registered attendees.
Reservations: No reservations will be accepted after Saturday, November 16. Payment is required in advance by credit card or check and is non-refundable. If paying by check, your payment should be payable to “WWS” and sent to WWS c/o Melanie Clark, 6705 Shadow Crest Drive, Plano, TX 75093. Payment must be received by the date of the event.
