LA: Black History Month Virtual Tasting with Theopolis Vineyards

About this event

Join us Monday, February 28th at 6pm PT on Zoom for an evening to honor Black History Month and the impact of BIPOC winemakers and entrepreneurs in the wine industry. We’re excited to have Ms. Theodora Lee founder and owner of Theopolis Vineyards, more lovingly known as Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyards.

Ms. Lee, a San Francisco law firm senior partner, trial lawyer, and Texas native developed a passion for wine through the influence of her law firm mentors, most of whom owned their own vineyard. This influence led Ms. Lee to purchase sheep land in the Yorkville Highlands of Anderson Valley in 2001. In 2003 Ms. Lee established her vineyard, adopting her Greek name “Theopolis” from her time pledging Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Robert Parker bestowed upon wine made from grapes harvested from Theopolis Vineyards a rating of 94-96 points, a spectacular showing for the vintner's first harvest in 2006. Emboldened by the great fruit produced by the land, Ms. Lee decided to bottle her own wines in 2014. Her wines have since gone on to win acclaim from multiple wine critics and organizations, including the San Francisco International Wine Competition, Wine Enthusiast Magazine among others. This success has led to features in multiple publications and news outlets including Essence Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, ABC, CBS News, Black News Channel, and many more. Ms. Lee was recognized as a 2020 Wine Industry Leader by Wine Business Monthly, and more recently nominated for the Wine Enthusiast’s 22nd Annual Wine Star Person of the Year Award.

The Tasting Kit

2020 Cuvee Blanc: 100% Chardonnay. A walk through a tropical Hawaiian rainforest; fresh notes of pineapple, guava, and coconut enliven the nose. These tropical notes transcend to a rich mid palate with a smooth, subtle spice and mouthwatering acidity, with a soft and creamy finish.

2017 Cuvee Cerise: 50% Petite Syrah, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.  With perfumed notes of dried cherry, violets, bell pepper, and sweet baking spice. The palate is rich and juicy with notes of cherry preserves and buttery shortbread that transcend to a long, warm finish.
